# Why Surfroam SIM has to be placed in SLOT 1?

In dual-slot smartphones, you must **put the ** [Surfroam SIM](https://surfroam.com/products/surfroam-sim) ** into SLOT 1.** 
SLOT 1 supports all SIMs, including "smart" SIMs with more memory and functions. ****
It is guaranteed that the Surfroam SIM card will be activated correctly and registered in a network as fast as possible.
Also, it helps to make the setup process simple and handy.


SLOT 2 supports "simple SIMs," local SIMs, and SD cards.
However, depending on the manufacturer's device, SLOT 2 does not support new smart SIM technologies.
Your local SIM will work fine in SLOT 2 during your next travel. 

In settings, you may choose which slot is the **data-only channel** and which is for **calls and messages**.
